Alienation

In a house of worship, a lone figure stands,
Faithless in a sea of believers.
Witnessing the potent faith of singin souls
for a god as yet unseen.

It all starts with a little prayer,
soon heart to heart are linked.
And holy song echoes afar,
fervent declaration of piety.

The faithless one stands as one ashaken,
and yet he feels not the faith.
The cresting wave on which pilgrim soul rode,
he falls into abject failure.

He despairs of the love shown him,
a love he cannot return.
As the enlightened sould pass beyond,
leaving his heart in darkness.
